The Lutheran Church -- Missouri Synod (LCMS) was established on April 26, 1847. Twelve pastors representing 15 congregations signed a constitution that
established "The German Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Missouri, Ohio and Other States." The name was changed to LCMS over fifty years ago. The original constitution was written in German,
but today the primary language is English. Nonetheless, the LCMS includes people from a variety of countries and has an international presence.
